Ceremony for naming the Gdynia Film Centre after Leszek Kopeć

To commemorate and honour Leszek Kopeć’s contributions to Polish culture and film, by the resolution the City Council of Gdynia passed on 27th September 2025, the Gdynia Film Centre will be named after him.
Leszek Kopeć was not only the Director of the Polish Film Festival, but also the founder and long-serving Director of the Gdynia Film Centre – the institution that transformed Gdynia into a city of film. In his words: ‘Film in Gdynia goes beyond the one week a year when filmmakers and stars gather at the Festival. Thanks to the creation of the Gdynia Film Centre, we can watch films unavailable in the big cinema chains all year round, participate in workshops, and meet interesting people, not only from the film industry.’
The naming ceremony will take place on 13th September 2025 during the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Gdynia Film Centre, and during the 50th Polish Film Festival, on Saturday (27th September 2025), a portrait of Leszek Kopeć created by Andrzej Pągowski will be unveiled.
