Contest on Knowledge of the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia

The 50th edition of the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia offers a unique opportunity to take a closer look at the history of one of the biggest and most important film events in Poland. We would like to invite all fans of the Festival and Polish cinema to take part in the Contest on Knowledge of the Polish Film Festival. Not only does it create a great opportunity for film game and a journey through half a century of Polish cinema, but the contestants will also have a chance of winning unique prizes. The questions will include general information on the Festival, as well as details about its individual editions, filmmakers, films and awards. Get your chance to win accreditations for the 50th PFF, invitations to the awards ceremony and closing banquet, as well as the opportunity to present an award during the Young Gala of the 50th PFF. To enter the contest, you need to complete the application form by 20th August 2025.

In the contest questions we will go through consecutive decades, recalling important moments, high-profile and surprising verdicts, festival twists, and, above all, films. We will also look back on people associated with the event: both filmmakers whose works were first presented in Gdańsk and now in Gdynia, as well as people behind the organisation of the Festival. The final of the contest is scheduled for 7th September. This date is not accidental – the first edition of the Festival started on 7th September 1974. This way, history will come full circle, and we will start the next chapter with a solid portion of knowledge about it – comments Joanna Łapińska, the Artistic Director of the Polish Film Festival.

The contest comprises two stages:

Stage I – 22nd August 2025: online quiz

Based on the number of points earned and the time of responding, 50 finalists will be selected.

Stage II – 7th September 2025, Gdynia Film Centre (GFC): Grand Finale of the Contest

First, 50 finalists will take part in a multimedia test, then 10 participants with the highest scores will qualify for the Final.
