- 27th September 2025, 11:00 a.m. – Gdynia Film Centr
To commemorate and honour Leszek Kopeć’s contributions to Polish culture and film, the City Council of Gdynia passed a resolution on 27th August 2025 to name the Gdynia Film Centre after him.
Leszek Kopeć was not only the Director of the Polish Film Festival but also the founder and long-serving Director of the Gdynia Film Centre – the institution that transformed Gdynia into a true city of film. In his words: ‘Film in Gdynia goes beyond the one week a year when filmmakers and stars gather at the Festival. Thanks to the creation of the Gdynia Film Centre, we can watch films unavailable in major cinema chains all year round, participate in workshops, and meet interesting people, not only from the film industry.’
The naming ceremony took place on 13th September 2025, during celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of the Gdynia Film Centre. The unveiling of a portrait of Leszek Kopeć, created by Andrzej Pągowski, is scheduled for Saturday, 27th September 2025, during the 50th Polish Film Festival.
