Painting Film. The Polish Film School through the Eyes of Contemporary Female Painters – EXHIBITION
 • 22nd-27th September 2025 – Gallery of Gdynia Film Centre
 • free admission

Painting Film is an art event combining two fields of artistic expression: painting and film. Thirteen contemporary Polish female artists have interpreted the most picturesque period in Polish cinema – the Polish Film School, an era rich in painterly (!) imagery. Although it lasted only a decade (the turn of the 1950s and 1960s), the Polish Film School remains a global phenomenon, internationally recognised as the most iconic period in Polish cinema.

The exhibited works are not only reinterpretations of Polish film classics but also artistic attempts to capture the emotions, moods, and symbols that shaped Polish identity in the last century. Seen through the eyes of female painters working in the 2020s, the paintings reflect the unique visions and sensitivities of their creators, who used colour and form to bring to canvas their impressions of selected films from the Polish Film School.

The exhibition has been displayed in Poland’s major cities associated with cinema: Warsaw, Łódź, and Katowice. The tour concludes at the 50th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.
