Juliusz Machulski

Film director, screenwriter and producer. One of the most eminent Polish filmmakers of commercial cinema. He studied Polish Studies at the University of Warsaw for a while before switching to Directing at the Łódź Film School, which he graduated in in 1978. In the years 1984-1985, as a Fulbright Foundation scholarship holder, he studied at the California Institute of Arts, the USA. In 1993 he taught film directing and screenwriting at Hunter College in New York. He is the founder and artistic director of Zebra Film Studio. He is a member of e.g. the General Board of the Polish Filmmakers Association, the Polish Film Academy, the European Film Academy and the Council of the Polish Film Institute. As a filmmaker he gained recognition in Poland and abroad confirmed by awards, including the Minister of Culture and Art Award, Special Jury Prize at the Avoriaz International Fantastic Film Festival, the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, the Annual Award of the Minister of Culture and Art, Best Screenplay Award at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, and a Medal of Recognition – the Kosciuszko Foundation award for outstanding contribution to the promotion of Poland and Polish culture in the United States.
