‘To know where your heart is headed, you need to know where it set out from. So you don’t lose your way.’
In the north-eastern corner of Poland, on the lakeshore there stands a women’s house – a house of mothers, daughters and sisters. From generation to generation the women pass down their unapproachability, steadfastness and family secrets. 20-year-old Łucja will be able to begin her independent life only after she has faced the truth about her family. An unexpected meeting with a mysterious Doctor starts an avalanche of events. An old clarinet will guide her to a story long ago erased from the pages of her family album. For Łucja to be able to hear the melody of her own life every veil must be torn down and every wrongdoing – forgiven. All that against the backdrop of wild glacial landscapes of the Suwałki Gap and the Klezmer Orchestra from Sejny whose music bridges the past and the present.
The film is the director’s feature-length debut.
