The film, written by Leopold Tyrmand (based on his own novel, confiscated by the censors in Poland, entitled ”Siedem dalekich rejsów”), takes place in two dimensions of time: today and a few years earlier. The history of two people meeting. Once in Darłów, near the sea, they were united and divided by a mysterious triptych of King Erik, which could have been the beginning of deep feelings. The get-together in Warsaw is only a painful recollection for the man. Once she rejected his love, now he rejects the love of another woman. The surroundings of a deserted harbour town, a bit dreamlike interiors create a poetic atmosphere of mutual infatuation contrasting with the reality of Warsaw reunion.
