Night Train
Jerzy Kawalerowicz
1959, 1 h 38 minA chamber psychological case study, a poetic story about loneliness, and at the same a joint portrait of Poles of the end of the 50’s of the last century. Two random travellers meet in a sleeping compartment. A subtle game of their emotions – from mutual dislike to intimacy without perspectives – takes place with the background of a human microcosm squeezed in a train. The film, on the one side, is a game of conventions of a thriller and a melodrama, on the other hand – a kind of a poetic draft full of unclear points.
