Gdynia – City of Modernism – Invites You to Architectural Tours

Discover the Modernist Centre of Gdynia – a Polish nominee for the UNESCO World Heritage List. During the 50th PFF in Gdynia, join us for an extraordinary tour of the Modernist Centre. You’ll explore the wealth of architectural concepts from the Lviv and Warsaw schools, as represented in the designs of renowned architects: Ziołowski; Piotrowski; the duos Kupiec/Kossak, Mazalon/Koziński, and Müller/Reychman; the trio Sieczkowski/Karpiński/Sołtyński; as well as Bochniak, Maśliński, Furschmied, and Eliza Unger. During the tours, we will visit the interiors of twenty-one pearls of Modernism, which showcase the vast artistic and functional diversity of this unique architectural style.
Gdynia is the only city in the world (I know) where the centre of the city goes directly into the sea. (…) It’s the city itself that is going out to the sea. This openness, this gesture.
– Dr Jeremie Hoffmann, Tel Aviv University
The tours will be led by Arkadiusz Brzęczek, a Gdynia-born researcher, friend of the city, and author of Sekrety gdyńskich kamienic, who knows Gdynia Modernism inside out. Tours will start at 11 a.m. every day from 23rd to 27th September at the entrance to the Gdynia Film Centre. Duration: approx. 90 minutes.
