Not every war has heroes of this kind. On 1 September 1939, in a place called Westerplatte, the first shots of the World War II were fired from the vessel Schleswig-Holstein. A group of 200 heroic soldiers managed to resist efficiently Hitler’s army of several thousand men. They did not surrender, although they knew that their fight was becoming a suicide mission. Despite the enemy’s preponderance, they were defending the Polish transit depot for seven days. “Secret of Westerplatte ” is a war drama about people who found themselves in an extremely difficult situation. It is a story of two commanders and their soldiers for whom the word ‘heroism’ had utterly different meanings. What takes more courage – to fight till the end or to save lives of your soldiers and give in to the crushing force of the enemy?
