1921. Two young Poles, sisters – Ewa and Magda, set off to America in search for a better life. However, before their American Dream fulfils, they have to go through a selection on Ellis Island. Magda, suffering from tuberculosis, is held back and quarantined, and the stranded Ewa begins conquering America by herself. Unfortunately, she soon realises that a young Polish woman with no acquaintances and references cannot hope for much in Manhattan.
