When he’s arrested, she and her son are sent deep into Russia, to Kazakhstan, to work on the field of a sovkhoz with other Polish exiles. As a Jew and a wife of a Communist, Ola is rejected by Poles. Dealing with a mad love of a Soviet commanding officer, she desperately fights for her and her son’s survival.
Among many other accolades, the film received the Golden Lions at the 17th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, 1992, and the Peace Prize at the 1994 Trieste Film Festival.
