49th Polish Film Festival Competition Films

Over two months before the Festival, we are happy to announce the list of films qualified for the Main Competition and the Short Film Competition of the 49th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia!

As many as 16 films have been qualified for the Main Competition. Among them there are 4 full-length directing debuts and 4 director’s second films.

In accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the 49th PFF, films for the Main Competition have been selected by the Artistic Director of the Festival, Joanna Łapińska, and the Selection Team appointed by her (advisory body in the composition of: film director Agnieszka Woszczyńska, film expert Anita Skwara and film director Maciej Pieprzyca) and the Organising Committee.

As Joanna Łapińska says: “I already know this year’s Main Competition will be looked forward to. Some viewers can’t wait to see the high-profile titles, others – the films by esteemed filmmakers and yet others are waiting for film discoveries. I wish you as much of the latter as possible. Polish film production is rich and diversified today. This is well reflected by this year’s Main Competition. I am sure this year’s competition 16 films will make the starting point for a discussion about the condition of Polish film and its future.”

Artistic Director of the Festival Joanna Łapińska says: “We’ve had a record number of submissions this year. Nearly 160 titles ran for a place in the Short Film Competition and choosing was no easy task. The final list reflects what young filmmakers want to talk about. They will show us their fresh point of view on topics that we dealt with in recent months, also personal stories. I like young people’s courage, their openness to experimenting with form and genre. All that will be seen in the Short Film Competition.

The list of films qualified for the Perspectives Competition will be announced by the end of July.

The 49th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia will take place on 23rd–28th September 2024.
