Siudmak. Around Dune Exhibition

Siudmak. Around Dune Exhibition

This year’s Festival proves that art and film intertwine. The Museum of the City of Gdynia, together with ToTuart Art Gallery and Auction House, has prepared an exhibition of one of the most outstanding Polish artists Wojciech Siudmak, whose art inspired director Denis Villeneuve to make the film Dune.

On Tuesday 24th September, in the Museum of the City of Gdynia, the vernissage of the Siudmak. Around Dune Exhibition and a meeting with the artist were held. After the official opening carried out by the director of the Museum of the City of Gdynia – Karin Moder, the artistic director of the 49th PFF Joanna Łapińska stated that Siudmak’s art could be defined by two words “limitless imagination”. Both the conversation with the artist, conducted by the exhibition curators – dr Anna Śliwa from the Museum of the City of Gdynia and Dominik Zieliński, the managing director of ToTuart Art Gallery and Auction House – and the artist’s works, have confirmed the relevance of these words.

When asked which of the two: knowledge or imagination, has greater importance to him, Wojciech Siudmak said: – It’s good to have both, and this exhibition shows that well.

The vernissage was accompanied by unveiling of the artist’s most recent sculpture “Asteroida”. – My sculpture is a very good illustration of neosurrealism – the artist said.

– The selection of works is perfect for the festival event, as we may see a couple of great paintings, which were presented in Dune covers, a real treat for fans. Persons interested in cinema and those who like good art will not be disappointed. This art has many details, you want to look into, sometimes endlessly. They are attractive not only for an art historian but for every person – says Anna Śliwa.

– The collection of works is unique as it presents a meeting point of fine arts and film, and in case of Siudmak’s works we may find here a sample of each branches of his works: paintings, drawings and sculptures, on which he concentrates the most. We may say today that Wojciech Siudmak is in Top 5, if not even in Top 3 of the most important living Polish artists, so we are very lucky to have an opportunity to present him here – adds Dominik Zieliński.

The exhibition can be visited throughout the Festival, except for Friday (27th September), when the Museum is closed. Free admission for Festival participants, upon presentation of an accreditation.
