Barbara Sass

Film and television director and screenwriter. In 1958, graduated from the Film and Television Direction Department of Lodz Film School. Assistant to such directors as Wojciech Has, Jerzy Skolimowski and Andrzej Wajda. Debuted in television with the film The Last Leaf (1972) and in cinema with the full-length feature Without Love (1980). The latter brought Dorota Stalińska the award for an actress and the author herself – the award for directing debut at the Polish Film Festival in Gdańsk. Her next films, The Scream (1982), Girls from Nowolipki (1985) and Nothing But Fear (1993), demonstrate Sass-Zdort’s mastery of depicting women on screen. Recipient of numerous awards at prestigious festivals in Mannheim, San Sebastian and Karlovy Vary, to name but a few.
