Tadeusz Konwicki

Polish author of prose, screenwriter and director, representative of the Polish Film School. Born in 1926. Literary director of the Kadr Film Group, author of screenplays for films, including Winter Twilight by Stanisław Lenartowicz as well as Mother Joan of the Angels and Pharaoh by Jerzy Kawalerowicz. For his directorial debut The Last Day of Summer (1958), he was awarded the Grand Prix of the International Documentary and Short Film Festival in Venice. In his subsequent films, he emphasised his nostalgia for the multicultural Eastern Borderlands. He was repeatedly presented with the highest industry and national awards, including the Platinum Lions at the 2011 PFF in Gdynia and the Eagle Award in 2002 for lifetime achievement. He passed away in 2015.
