The Call of the Toad
Aleksander, a German born in Gdansk, lives in Germany. Aleksandra, a Pole born in Vilnius, lives in Gdansk. Both left their hometowns in 1945. Or rather were expelled. They meet in 1989 in Gdansk when Aleksander comes to Poland after about forty years. In the past, he was a member of the Hitler Youth. Aleksandra was an active member of the Union of Polish Youth. Flirting and fighting they fall in love. Willing to contribute to the end of fight between their nations, they establish the Polish-German Cemetery Association to give the dead the right to come back to their motherland.
