The Death of Mr. Lazarescu

The Death of Mr. Lazarescu

dir.

Cristi Puiu

2005, 2 h 33 min
Mr. Lazarescu, 63 years old, lives in a block of flats with three cats. His wife died and his daughter emigrated to Canada. One day he feels sick and calls an ambulance. Before it arrives he asks his neighbors for help. Suspecting colon cancer, the doctor examining him decides to put the man in hospital. However, in the hospital other priorities stand in his way, so mistaken for an alcoholic, the old man is sent away to another hospital, and then to another one… Something which at first seemed to be a simple formality – examination of the man, who vomits and complains about headaches, and his admittance for observation – becomes a horror.
