The Happiness of the World

An exceptional tenement house in Silesia just next to the Polish-German border and its inhabitants: the beautiful Jewess Róża and three men infatuated with her – a Pole, a Silesian and a German. There are also two supporting characters: a journalist from Warsaw, bon vivant Sobański, Róża’s object of admiration, and Jan, a family friend. We meet the characters in the summer of 1939. The first part of the film ends with a dramatic war night.

labour… It turns out that the nuns were mass raped by Red Army soldiers. The nun asks Mathilda if she could come to the convent in secret. The Mother Superior wishes to avoid scandal at any cost.
