Thursday, 21st September. The fourth day of the 42nd PFF
The films “Be Prepared” directed by Robert Gliński, “The Best” directed by Łukasz Palkowski and “Silent Night” directed by Piotr Domalewski – the Thursday programme of the 42nd Polish Film Festival in Gdynia envisages three premiere screenings in the Main Competition. Next to them, the rest of the competition titles are continuously screened, also in the Visions Apart Competition and the Short Film Competition. Program and booking at www.festiwalgdynia.pl.
Franciszek Pieczka in Gdynia
He has played in over 100 films, and soon, it will be his 90th birthday. Franciszek Pieczka will meet the audience, presenting his most recent film, “The Son of Snow Queen” directed by Robert Wichrowski. The artist will receive the Polish Filmmakers Association Award from its Chairman, Jacek Bromski. The meeting with the actor, together with the film screening, will begin at 3.30 pm in Multikino in screening room 3.
In Memoriam
In the Pure Classics – In Memoriam section, on Thursday we will present two films directed by Krzysztof Kieślowski. At 6.00 pm in the Warszawa screening room of the Gdynia Film Centre, a screening of the digitally reconstructed “The Calm” will take place.
The screening of “A Short Film About Love” will also commemorate the figure of Witold Adamek, an outstanding operator, screenwriter and director, who passed away in February 2017. The screening begins at 11.00 am in the Goplana screening room of the Gdynia Film Centre. The Digital Film Repository is the partner of this section at the 42nd Polish Film Festival.
As part of Special Screenings – In Memoriam, a screening of the documentary “They Called Him Ptaszek” will take place. It was directed by Aneta Ptak, the daughter of the late film operator, Krzysztof Ptak. The viewers can also see the film “Another World. 100 minutes for a hundred years” directed by Danuta Kędzierzawska, with another memorable creation by Danuta Szaflarska.
Additional screening: “Młynarski – the final song”
On account of huge interest of the viewers, we invite to an additional screening, as part of the Special Screenings – In Memoriam section, of the film “Młynarski – the final song” directed by Alicja Albrecht. The screening will be held on Friday, 22nd September, at 2.45 pm in the Morskie Oko screening room in Gdynia Film Centre. Tickets to the additional screening are already on sale and on-line booking of seats will be possible from Thursday, 21st September. Before the screening, a meeting with the director, Alicja Albrecht, will be held.
Special Screenings
At midday, a screening of the film „Through & Through” directed by Grzegorz Królikiewicz will begin. Another special screening will be “Epilogue at Nuremberg” directed by Jerzy Antczak, the Chairman of the Jury of the Main Competition.
Krakow Film Festival Catching Waves and Polonica
On the second day of Krakow Film Festival Catching Waves, a screening of the musical documentary “When God Sleeps” directed by Till Schauder has been planned. Other films from the Polonica section are “Clair Obscur” by Yesima Ustaoglu and “Dawn” by Laila Pakalnina.
Outdoor Screenings
We invite to the last outdoor screening with the comedies of Stanisław Bareja. On Thursday evening, in Grunwaldzki Square, you will be able to see the film “What Will You Do When You Catch Me?”. It starts at 8.30 pm.
PKO BANK POLSKI ACADEMY OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND GDYNIA INDUSTRY
The Thursday meetings as part of the Academy are moved to screening room 8 in Multikino. The programme of the day includes the following: PLATIGE IMAGE – VISUAL EFFECTS IN THE FILM INDUSTRY AND THE PLATIGE 3D LIVE THEATRE CONCEPT at 10.00 am, DIFACTORY – NEW TRENDS IN FEATURE FILM COLOUR CORRECTION at 12.30 pm and ORKA FILM – SPECIAL EFFECTS IN FILMS QUALIFIED FOR THE MAIN COMPETITION at 3.00 pm. The series of presentations regarding the future of the cinema will be wrapped up with a screening of the film devoted to its beginnings, the documentary “Lumiere Brothers” by Thierry Fremaux.
Gdynia Industry
In the Musical Theatre on Kameralna Stage at 11.00 am, the first Thursday discussion panel in the Gdynia Industry cycle will be held: DISCUSSION “SCREEN SIZE, OR CINEMA IN THE TIMES OF ONLINE DISTRIBUTION”. At 1.00 pm, discussion about THE PROMOTION OF POLISH FILM ABROAD” will take place. At 3.00 pm, a meeting entitled RECEIVING FILM FOUNDS. HACKNEYED PATHS AND UNEXPLORED LANDS will begin, and at 5.30 pm – discussion: WHY IT IS WORTH TO INVEST IN HIGHEST QUALITY TV SERIES?.
Exhibitions at the Festival
We remind that from Monday, accompanying exhibitions can be visited. From Monday, in the Museum of the City of Gdynia – “Andrzej Pągowski: Film Posters”. An official opening of this exhibition will be held on Tuesday, at 6.00 pm. In the Gallery of the Gdynia Film Centre, the exhibition “Jerzy Kawalerowicz in the 10th anniversary of death” is presented. Photographs from “Bogdan Dziworski f/5.6” exhibition are presented in the Foyer of the Musical Theatre, just as “Directors in Portrait” by Rafał Placek. The exhibition “Krzysztof Ptak: photographs” can be seen in the Foyer of the New Stage of the Musical Theatre. In the European Council Park, “Walkiria Film Group” and ELLE “Birth of Stars” outdoor exhibition, and in Grunwaldzki Square, “Cinema and theatre under Occuppation” and “City of Culture, City of Film” exhibitions are held.
