Let us remind that since 2015, the Young Cinema Competition is a section which presents solely short feature films and graduation short films by film school students. As in the previous years, there are two awards given in the Competition: the Lucjan Bokiniec (the Festival’s founder) Main Prize in the amount of PLN 10,000 and the Special Prize in the amount of PLN 5,000. The films presented in the Short Film Competition will fight for two awards as well: the Ewa Kamirska Main Prize in the amount of PLN 15,000 and the Special Prize for the creative boldness, funded by Multimedia Polska, in the amount of PLN 5,000.
This year, the Organizing Committee decided to resign from the Polish Independent Cinema Review. Instead, since 2015, the Short Film Competition is an integral part of the Festival. It presents Polish short feature films except for short films and graduation films of film school students.
“In my opinion, this year’s change consisting in the creation of two clearly defined competitions worked perfectly well as soon as on the selection stage. Since this edition of the Festival, it will be clear that the Young Cinema Competition presents school films and the Short Film Competition gathers the productions of various entities, including the Munk Studio,” says the Artistic Director of the Festival, Michał Oleszczyk. “In this way, students do not have to compete with professionals and independent filmmakers, and the prizes in both competitions will be more well-defined in character.”
The 40th Gdynia Film Festival will be held from 14th to 19th September 2015.
