Omar Sangare

Omar Sangare

Actor, director, writer, university professor, producer.
He received Ph.D. degree from the National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw. Polish audiences know him mostly for his work in two theatre companies: Dramatyczny Theatre and Studio Theatre in Warsaw, as well as from movies and TV productions directed by Ryszard Bugajski, Sławomir Idziak, Krzysztof Krauze, Maciej Ślesicki, and Mariusz Treliński. He lives and works in the U.S., serving as a professor of theatre at Williams College. Omar is also the founder and artistic director of United Solo, the world’s largest solo theatre festival at Theatre Row on 42nd Street in New York City. He worked with artists such as Fiona Shaw, Marsha Mason, Eric Roberts, and Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch ensemble members. His favorite credits include Othello, of which The New York Times wrote, “Omar Sangare was born to play Othello,” and a role written especially for him by John Guare in the recent production of “Three Kinds of Exile” at the Atlantic Theater in New York.
