A gap year for the 45th Polish Film Festival?

The organization of this year’s Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, in the conditions of the current epidemic, depends on the guidelines of the Government Crisis Management Team regarding the implementation of mass events. It is highly probable that the Gdynia festival, like most of the major cultural events planned for this year, financed by the state, will not take place, and its edition will be postponed to the next year.

The Gdynia festival is not only a review of the latest and best Polish productions and honoring the most distinguished artists. It is also a meeting place – creators with viewers and journalists as well as the entire film environment. It is a time of discussions, industry events and other events promoting Polish cinematography and film culture. The festival week in Gdynia is an unique celebration of Polish cinema, therefore, according to the common opinion of the film community, also shared by the Director of the Polish Film Festival, it is not justified to conduct this event online.

The final decision on changing the date of the Polish Film Festival is to be made during the meeting of the FPFF Organizing Committee on May 20, 2020. At the same time, the work schedule for the 45th FPFF will change.
