Anita is trying to build a perfect family. She uses her power to create a better world. Her obsession with perfection leads to a tragedy. On behalf of the Office she takes away the daughter of a pair of Polish emigrants. The parents stand powerless faced with the machine of bureaucracy. Desperate, they decide to act outside the law. Will they manage to save themselves in this dead end situation?

Summer Solstice

1943. Polish province. The war has already been going on for four years. After the defeat at Stalingrad ever younger Germans are drafted into the army. That’s how Guido, a sensitive 17-year-old, finds himself in Poland. Within an alien reality he’s trying to create an asylum for himself against the brutality of war and the vulgar world of his elder comrades, gendarmes. In a forsaken attic he listens to forbidden music – jazz, and spends his time dreaming.

At the same time, his peer Romek helps his mother after he’s lost his father and works for the railway. He’s dreaming of two things: driving a locomotive on his own and winning the heart of Franka, the daughter of a wealthy farmer. Being the assistant driver, everyday on the siding he sees the things taken away from the Jews deported to concentration camps. A gramophone with jazz records found in a Jewish suitcase will lead to a meeting of Guido, Romek and Franka. This moment will change their lives.

The Accidental Sportsman

A brilliant comedy of errors which continues to amuse the audience despite the passing decades. Main roles feature one of the greatest comedians of all times, Adolf Dymsza, a leading screen heart-throb, Aleksander Żabczyński, and the first vamp of Polish cinema, Ina Benita. It is one of the final pre-war films, its premiere took place already during World War II.
So far we have only known the re-edited and significantly shortened American version of the film. Now we are watching a digitally restored copy complemented with nearly ten minutes of material not known to the post-war audience.

In 1968 she and her husband, an American journalist, emigrated to the USA. Her great Polish career did not help her make her mark as an actress in the States.
The documentary, constructed along the principles of a feature film, guides the viewer step by step through the actress’s life that resembles a Greek tragedy.
