Asghar Farhadi is an Iranian director who released his first full-length film, the social drama Dancing in the Dust, in 2003. His next film, The Beautiful City, a story about a teenager sentenced to death, became a spectacular success. He received the Silver Bear (2009) and the Golden Bear (2011) at the Berlin IFF for About Elly and A Separation, respectively, and won the Oscar twice: for A Separation and The Salesman. A Hero won him the Grand Prix at the Festival de Cannes. The problems of truth, ethical ambiguities, and the social and cultural differences that divide Iranian society are the key themes in his work.
