The Polish Film Festival in Gdynia is produced by the Pomeranian Film Foundation in Gdynia.
The Foundation was established on 15th April 2005 on the initiative of its Founders: the Local Government of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, the Municipality of Gdynia and the Polish Filmmakers Association. The Polish Film Institute is an associate member of the Foundation. The Foundation’s headquarters are located in the Leszek Kopeć Gdynia Film Centre building at 2 Grunwaldzki Square.
The Pomeranian Film Foundation in Gdynia focuses its activities on projects aimed at promoting Polish cinema both at home and abroad. As part of this work, it organises the Polish Film Festival. It has also organised thirteen editions of the KINOPOLIS Polish Film Festival in Dublin and is a partner in numerous other film initiatives.
Since 2010, the Foundation has expanded its educational activities to include the organisation and running of the Gdynia Film School, where young film students acquire the comprehensive knowledge and practical skills necessary to pursue a career as a film director.
However, the GFS is not the only initiative aimed at educating future filmmakers and cinema enthusiasts. For years, the Foundation has been running hugely popular projects such as Film Thoughts. Cinema Lessons, the Pomeranian Film Workshops, the Film Music Composition Workshops, the Albatrosy Amateur Student Film Festival, Cinema Holidays, KINOferie, and an educational project aimed at the very youngest – Cartoon at the Centre – which introduces children to the world of film from an early age.
Since 2020, the Foundation’s educational programme has been expanded to include virtual versions of its projects, which enable young people and children to learn at home and in schools.
