Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau was a German film director, producer and screenwriter. He is considered one of the most influential filmmakers of the silent film era and German Expressionism of the 1920s. Murnau abandoned the static way of shooting in favour of the camera in motion and introduced the zoom effect. He revolutionised the art of film expression by using the camera to provide a subjective interpretation of characters’ emotions.
