Krzysztof Kieślowski, born in 1941, was an acclaimed director of documentary and feature films. He was a member of the Tor Film Group and a long-serving vice-president of the Polish Filmmakers Association. He received numerous prestigious awards, including the European Film Award (Felix). He taught directing and screenwriting in Katowice, West Berlin, Helsinki, and Łódź. In 1990, he became an honorary member of the BFI, and in 1995, he joined the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He died in 1996.
