Tadeusz Konwicki was a novelist, screenwriter, director, and co-creator of the Polish Film School and auteur cinema. He wrote the screenplays for Winter Twilight, Mother Joan of the Angels, Pharaoh, Jovita, The Inn, and Chronicle of Amorous Accidents. He served as literary director for several film groups but was most closely associated with the Kadr Film Studio. His books were published both through official channels and in underground circulation. His directorial debut, The Last Day of Summer, was a sensation on a global scale. He won awards at international festivals in Edinburgh, Mannheim, San Remo, and Venice, as well as at the PFF in Gdynia. Tadeusz Konwicki was also honoured with the Eagle for Lifetime Achievement (2002), the Golden Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis (2005), an award from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage for lifetime achievement (2010), and the Platinum Lions (2011). In 2026, the Sejm of the Republic of Poland adopted a resolution commemorating him on the centenary of his birth.
