Film director. One of the most eminent representatives of the Polish Film School. Studied at the Lodz Film School Direction of Photography and Television Production Department but graduated from the Film and Television Direction Department. From 1950 to 1955, worked at the Documentary and Feature Film Studios, initially as a camera operator for the Polish Film Chronicle, then as a director of documentaries. From 1957 to 1961, a lecturer at the Lodz Film School. His films received awards at festivals in Venice, Karlovy Vary, Edinburgh and Cannes.
