Barbara Sass-Zdort was a film and television director and screenwriter. In 1958, she graduated in directing from the Łódź Film School. An assistant to Wojciech Jerzy Has, Jerzy Skolimowski, and Andrzej Wajda, she debuted on the silver screen with Without Love, which brought her the award for a directing debut at the 1980 PFF in Gdańsk. Throughout her career, she received numerous awards at prestigious festivals, including those in Mannheim, San Sebastian, and Karlovy Vary. Barbara Sass-Zdort was a master of depicting women on screen.
