Agnieszka Smoczyńska graduated from Culture Studies and Directing from the Radio and Television Faculty of the University of Silesia in Katowice. She was awarded numerous times for her short feature films. In 2015 she made her debut with The Lure which won her Best Debut at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia and an Eagle in the Discovery of the Year category, along with multiple awards around the world, incl. at Porto, Sofia, Montreal, Vilnius and at the Sundance Film Festival where the film received the Special Award for its ‘unique vision and design’. Smoczyńska participated in the European Cinema: Ten Women Filmmakers to Watch programme. She is the winner of the Global Filmmaking Award founded by the Sundance Institute. Her second feature film, Fugue, had its premiere in Cannes as part of the prestigious Critics’ Week section. She made her theatre debut with a holy-hop-dog musical Holy Kluska. Her first English language production, The Silent Twins, which won the Golden Lions at the 47th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, had its premiere as part of the Un Cetrain Regard section in Cannes in 2022. Smoczyńska is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and of the Polish Filmmakers Association.
