Wojciech Jerzy Has

Visionary of cinema, one of the most outstanding and original Polish directors. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków and was a student of the Film Adaptation Course. He debuted in 1957 with The Noose based on the prose of Marek Hłasko. The main source of inspiration for him was literature, as all of his films are author's adaptations of literary works, often considered impossible to translate into film language (The Saragossa Manuscript, The Hour-Glass Sanatorium). Winner of many national and international awards, including the FIPRESCI for Farewells and the Cannes Jury Prize for The Hour-Glass Sanatorium.
