The film’s protagonist, Witold Bardach (Gene Gutowski), the son of a lawyer and pianist, was born in 1925 in Lviv. In 1941, a year after the Germans had entered the city, the situation of his family of Jewish origin became tragic. His parents and kin died in a concentration camp. A teenage Witold was alone. He escaped to Warsaw. Under the name of Eugeniusz Gutowski and thanks to his command of languages and him being extraordinarily smart, he found a job with the German Junkers company. He joined the Home Army. When the Gestapo caught his scent, he fled to Latvia and worked for a German construction company. Evacuated to Germany, he lived to see the end of the war and made it over to the American sector. He joined the US Army counter intelligence service as a special agent prosecuting Nazi criminals and Soviet agents.

In April 1947 he arrived in the USA, started to illustrate fashion and went on to film production. Producer of outstanding pictures, including the films by Roman Polański (”Repulsion”, “Cul-de-sac”, “Dance of the Vampires”), co-producer of “The Pianist”, which won an Oscar for best director and best screenplay.

We watch consecutive stages of the life of the protagonists, since the moment of the birth of the child to the last days of the mother, spent in solitude in hospital. An attempt at showing the emotional relation between close relative via original means of the film art. Brązowy Lajkonik, the FIPRESCI award and an award for cinematography at the Cracow Festival in 1980.

Piotr, nicknamed Python by his friends, arrives from England to marry beautiful Żaneta. He means to arrange a family seat for himself and his fiancee in an old house, a wedding gift from his future father-in-law. Everything gets complicated when on the day before the wedding Piotr finds human remains buried near the property. A moment after this gruesome discovery he loses consciousness and once he regains it, he sees that his find is missing and he himself is not able to remember anything of the past few hours. Meanwhile, the wedding starts. The guests, especially Żaneta’s brother - Jasny, seem to note that there is something wrong happening to the groom...

The film in a moving manner touches upon the topic of the violence against and brutal abuse of children. In Addis Abeba, a female lawyer founds a network providing poor women and children with legal representation free of charge. It is an act of courage – in this way, she risks being persecuted by the police and politicians. However, the real ordeal turns out to be the defence of the 14-year-old girl called Hirut who gets kidnapped and raped while going home from school. When fighting with the persecutors, she kills in self-defence. Yet a harder challenge appears: facing the cruel tradition of kidnapping and raping girls as a way to custom-forced marriage…

"Drygawica“ is a film about the suffering of two people who deeply love each other. The lack of communication turned the relationship into a cold and silent coexistence. Both of them are trying to deal with the problem in complete loneliness.
