The protagonists of this comedy-drama are members of a three-generation intelligentsia family. Lena, a school headmistress, is organising a party to celebrate her father’s seventieth birthday. Only the closest members of the family are supposed to be present, but to everyone’s surprise, the father invites someone he wants to introduce to the household. A suddenly revealed secret he kept for sixteen years will radically change the course of the festive gathering. In recounting the events of this fateful evening, the director uses the convention of the ‘home video’ often shot on similar occasions. Besides perfunctory and banal birthday wishes, the camera captures the characters in situations not intended for family archives, peeping in and immortalising their reactions and conversations that should never come to light.
