The creators of the opera *The Voice of the Monster* draw inspiration from a character in the film Europa Europa, directed by Agnieszka Holland, and the true story of Salomon Perel, a Jew who went into hiding during the Second World War whilst posing as a member of the Hitler Youth. In this original adaptation, created by outstanding figures from the worlds of film, theatre and music – Robert Bolesto, Agnieszka Smoczyńska and Alek Nowak – we are transported into the world of Greek mythology to view the phenomenon of war from a distance and recognise its timeless archetypes.
In the libretto, which tells the story of the immortal Medusa, whom Hades seeks to destroy, one of them conceals her identity and ends up at a school for the Erinyes that is hostile to her, whilst universal questions about memory, survival and identity resonate in the background.
Please note! The performance features smoke and strobe lighting.
