Heroism

dir.

Andrzej Munk

1957, 1 h 18 min

One of the masterpieces of the Polish Film School – a confrontation with the mythologised war past.

The film constits of two novels, which “are bound by the smilirar world view. These men were rational and capable of keeping a reasonable distance from the madness of the world around them. Eventually, however, their rationalism turend out to be an illusion and each of them decided to toe the line under the heroic dictation of the national community.” Tadeusz Lubelski, “Historia kina polskiego. Twórcy, filmy, konteksty” / “The History of Polish Cinema. Creators, films, contexts”, Katowice 2009.
