Lotna

Lotna

dir.

 Andrzej Wajda

1959, 1 h 28 min

A war drama and a poetic tale. The titular Lotna is a beautiful mare accompanying a squadron of Polish uhlans in the 1939 September campaign. One after the other, several officers inherit the horse as we learn their stories – all with a tragic ending written by the enemy forces. A tale of war and a study of individuals challenged by dramatic circumstances. The film is based on the prose by Wojciech Żukrowski.
