My Country So Beautiful
The irony of the title stems from the exacerbation of radical sentiments among Poles in recent years. According to the information at the beginning, the film is a “non-chronological documentation of selected social events”. Director juxtaposes rallies, demonstrations and street riots as well as speeches delivered by antifascist organisations. A non-linear structure creates a sense of escalation of strong emotions and hatred during public gatherings. Poles seen through Grzegorz Paprzycki’s lens seem to be a nation deeply conflicted or even divided into groups that use the same notions but in entirely different ways.
