Film adaptation of Tadeusz Breza’s well-known novel of the same title. A young lawyer comes to Rome to settle a difficult and delicate matter. His father, a consistory lawyer cannot perform his duties due to a conflict with a local diocesan bishop. To move the hearts of the Church dignitaries, he stands up for the ill-treated father, enters into a complicated maze of administration and church. Initially confused, he very quickly realizes that his father’s matter is a subject of an inner game of all kinds of internal systems operating within the Vatican itself. The human dimension is replaced by a hierarchical or competence matters, numerous prejudices, legal and conjunctural games.
