Despite the anti-Semitic campaign unleashed by the Polish People’s Republic authorities in the late 1960s, director Jerzy Hoffman completed the film Colonel Wolodyjowski. It became a gateway to The Deluge, the most expensive film in the history of Polish cinema. At work, Hoffman not only has to deal with mounting production problems and the Communist government’s distrust but also with the expectations of millions of Poles. The Deluge: Postscriptum takes a look behind the scenes of the creation of this iconic Polish historical film nominated for an Oscar in 1974 and the colourful life of its creator.
