The tradition of writing “Jewish Memorial Books” – “Memorbucher” – dates back to the Middle Ages. They served as commemoration of victims of anti-Jewish pogroms. In the 1930’s, the books became a description of places, people and the times they lived in. The story of Zamość Jewry is a film adaptation of a memorial book, it includes the description of the common history of the city and its Jewish residents until their nearly total Extermination during the World War II.
