Magdalena Piekorz is a film and theatre director, as well as a screenwriter, holding a PhD in film arts. She graduated in film directing from Radio and Television Faculty of the University of Silesia in Katowice, where she was an assistant professor and lecturer from 2004 to 2016. She received the Golden Lions and the Golden Claqueur for her feature debut The Welts at the Polish Film Festival in 2004, with additional awards for best cinematography, costume design and sound. It was a Polish submission for an Oscar in 2005. Drowsiness brought her the Golden Claqueur at the Polish Film Festival in 2008 as well as the Audience Award in New York and Seattle, while Close-Ups – the Johnnie Waterman Award for music and cinematography at the National Festival of Film Art “Prowincjonalia” in Września. She directed many award-winning documentary films. In addition to her movie career she is actively creating theatre plays. In 2022 she received the Mayor of Katowice Award for outstanding artistic achievements and in 2024 a Personality of the Year statuette. She served as a Director of TVP Film and Series Creation Agency.
