Sally Perel, born into a Jewish family in Saxony, emigrates with his relatives to Poland to escape fascist persecution. When the Nazi occupation starts, his parents send him and his brother further east. Sally ends up in an orphanage, falls under the influence of communist indoctrination, and joins the Komsomol. Deemed a ‘pure Aryan’, he later falls into German hands. Determined to survive, Sally tries to conceal the truth about himself at all costs.
