A SYSTEM IN NEED OF A REWRITE. HOW TO IMPROVE SCRIPT DEVELOPMENT?
What does script development in Poland look like today, and which elements of the process actually help filmmakers develop their projects? During the panel, we will examine the key systemic challenges, critically assessing the effectiveness of workshops, competitions, labs and training programmes, as well as strategies for working on scripts.
We will discuss the barriers that most often slow down project development and the changes needed in the screenplay development ecosystem. Together, we will look for solutions that could improve the quality of projects and better address the needs of screenwriters, producers and audiences. We will also look at development from the European perspective. We will assess the potential of Polish stories to engage international audiences, as well as the value that screenplays written by international authors can bring to Polish filmmakers and Polish co-productions. We will try to answer the question of which European screenplay development models and practices could be creatively adapted to the Polish system.
