This slogan has been welcoming Polish Film Festival guests for many years. Since its transition from Gdańsk to Gdynia in 1987, the city became strongly associated with cinema, culminating in 2021 with its inclusion into the UNESCO Creative City Network as the City of Film.
During the discussion after the screening of The Last Ride, a detective story directed by Jan Batory, we will attempt to determine how much truth can be found in this statement. Along the Festival, Gdynia Film School, Gdynia Film Centre, and other smaller entities have been operating. Is Gdynia truly a “Polish Cannes”, with film closely woven into its identity?
