Can cinema become a tool for social change? What kind of responsibility
rests on the creators, cultural institutions and educators in terms of telling stories about the world, shaping the collective memory as well as social attitudes?
The starting point for the conversation will be the Polish cinema and film culture, their social traditions, modern ways of involvement in the public life. The participants will consider the limits of culture’s social responsibility, and whether we should expect art to be actively involved in the most important social debates.
The discussion will connect representatives of different professions:
filmmakers, researchers and curators. They will present
their own view on the role of the cinema in shaping the community,
developing civic and cultural competences as well as
creating a space for dialogue. We will discuss the influence
movies have on the viewers, and the challenges Polish cinema
will have to face as a vital member of the social life.
The panel, organised in collaboration with the Polish Directors Guild and the Ekrany magazine, will serve as an opportunity for an exchange of experiences and reflections between the creators, researchers, and the audience.
