Halina Prugar-Ketling is one of the most outstanding film editors in the history of Polish cinema. For decades, working alongside the greatest directors, she helped create films that have become part of the canon. Her editing was more than just a technical stage in the film-making process – it was a way of thinking about rhythm, emotion, drama and the truth of the characters.
During a masterclass film critic Łukasz Knap and editor Rafał Listopad will discuss the filmography of Halina Prugar-Ketling from biographical, artistic as well as technical perspective. They will talk about her life, work method, editing style, and a special role she played in shaping the language of Polish cinema.
Although Halina Prugar-Ketling will be unable to attend the event in person, the masterclass will offer an opportunity to engage with her voice, experience and body of work. The session will be illustrated with excerpts from the most significant films she has edited, as well as excerpts from an interview conducted by Łukasz Knap with the artist as part of the ‘Archival Notes’ series produced for the Polish Filmmakers Association.
