Six intertwined novellas making up a distinctive social panorama and a daring portrait of today’s Warsaw and its inhabitants. A former prisoner, Igła, sees an apparition of Mother of God. He experiences a conversion and he wishes to redeem people. Wandering around Warsaw he meets other protagonists: Marcin – a seemingly shy businessman and a victim of mobbing, Lucy – a dreamer working at a sex shop, teenage Filip who wants to escape from his native village, Jurek – an embittered alcoholic who has wasted his life, and Monika – single, works at a corporation and is focused on her career. The feeling of loneliness, alienation, so typical for residents of today’s metropolis, is something they all have in common. In the film, they all experience their own kind of awakening which results in disruption of a string of humiliations, an act of sympathy towards a stranger, a suicide attempt or… a murder. At the same time, the protagonists happen to live in a city overshadowed by a cross.
