The 50 for 51 project in September – Polish Film Festival

And here it is – September – the month of the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. But don’t worry ­– instead of slowing down, the 50 for 51 project is going to pick up steam! This month we’ll gather at a record-breaking number of screenings (nearly 30), which will be a perfect occasion to meet filmmakers. We’ll be visiting Kielce, Kalisz, Pleszew, Warsaw, Darłowo, Pińczów, Kraśniczyn and Rawicz. “Przygody na cztery łapy” – film screenings for children featuring animal characters and various workshops are waiting for us in Kraśniczyn. In Warsaw, during the 100^th anniversary of Bronisław Pawlik’s birthday, we’ll show films starring this actor, whom Tadeusz Różewicz once described as “the embodiment of every human”. Pawlik’s characters are seemingly unheroic, entangled in everyday life, social expectations and their own limitations. We’ll hear new voices in Polish cinema. We’ll see comedies and films for children, teenagers and young adults. We’ll look for threads connected to Darłowo and Leopold Tyrmand. We’ll be a part of Bana Film Festival and 5^th cinema overview Natura Kina. And we’ll take care of accessibility, providing audio description and translation into Polish Sign Language, as a part of “Znak równości” cycle.

In August, we visited Chełmno, Rawicz, Pszczew, Rzeszów, Katowice, Warsaw and Kraków. It was summery and witty, classic and fresh. There were open-air screenings dedicated to teenagers and young adults as part of the 11^th edition of the 9 Hills Festival in Chełmno. We heard new voices in Polish cinema in Kraków. In Rawicz, Rzeszów and Katowice we showcased the evolution of Polish comedy over the decades. In Pszczew, we explored the evolution of Krzysztof Kieślowski’s vision. And at Amondo in Warsaw, we screened three significant works by female directors – representing different creative generations and distinct artistic approaches – from original 16 mm film prints.

Events in the 50 for 51 series will run until the end of February 2027. Thanks to the project, we will visit 14 provinces, the seaside, the mountains, towns and villages. We will visit Sulęczyno, Lubomierz, Piwniczna Zdrój, Kraśniczyn, Pszczew and Darłowo. Katowice, Kraków, Elbląg, Poznań, Lublin, Szczecin, Warsaw, Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot will each host their own instalments of the project. A total of 33 locations.
